A hot race for Georgia’s Governor is underway. It is time for us to put a pragmatist who focuses on the real issues into the Governor’s office. Stacey Abrams single-handedly stopped the largest tax increase in Georgia history. It occurred in 2011 when a Republican backed bill proposed cutting income taxes while raising a tax on cable service. Abrams studied the data, did a color-coded spreadsheet on who the tax bill would impact, and left a copy on every legislator’s desk in the house. When legislators saw that 82 percent of Georgians were going to get a substantial tax increase the bill failed.
Many of the successful Republican bills passed in recent years in the house did so because Stacey Abrams helped write them. When Governor Nathen Deal had Stacey help write criminal justice reform got Georgia, it was hailed nationally for reducing prison costs without increasing crime.
Stacey Abrams is pragmatic and focuses only on the real issues. The approach has won her support from environmentalists at the same time as she received and “A” rating from the Georgia Chamber of Commerce. In this polarized and contentious time Stacey Abrams is one of the most refreshingly bi-partisan candidates Georgia has seen in a long time. She is smart, down to earth and will focus on the kinds of issues that will make all Georgians proud.
