Local leaders should be able to work together

After years of feuding between the county and the city of Clayton, we citizens are still without millions of dollars in state funds we deserve because the governments cannot agree on a signed Service Delivery Strategy (SDS). For years, Rabun citizens have carried the tax burden of paying for attorneys and consultants doing battle over which government entity has the right to service and bill water and sewer customers. Now that the county and the cities have agreed to mediation over the SDS, one must ask, is there an end in sight to the city of Clayton and county feud?

Thomas Jefferson said, “If you want something you’ve never had you must be willing to do something you’ve never done.” Perhaps it is time for our elected officials to do something they have rarely done—work together for the common good.
